SPHERES thrust ON - time scaling tests onboard the KC - 135 February 2003

چکیده
It is well known that each thruster on the SPHERE produces slightly different thrust and behaves differently (see [Chen] and [Berkovitz]). Some methods were developed by [Chen] to compensate for the difference in thrust between thrusters and improve the open-loop performance of the SPHERE, but they were yet to be demonstrated. An experiment was performed onboard NASA’s KC-135, during microgravity periods, to demonstrate the scheme used to compensate for the difference in thrust from each thruster.

Results of microgravity flight experiments with the SPHERES testbed in November 2003
A series of four test flights of the SPHERES formation flying testbed was conducted aboard NASA’s KC-135 micro-gravity airplane in November 2003. These tests were sponsored by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, through the Terrestrial Planet Finder program, with the goal of advancing the progress of the SPHERES-TPF project prior to launch of the testbed to the International Space St...

متن کاملOnboard Flow Sensing for Rotary-Wing UAV Pitch Control in Wind
Due to their size, small rotorcraft are vulnerable to external flow disturbances that are challenging to flight stability and control. This paper describes preliminary results from using onboard flow measurements to augment inertial sensors for attitude control. We derive a dynamic model that captures the aerodynamic effects of wind on a single degree-of-freedom tandem-rotor test stand. A pair ...
